Romanian thief, a star abroad. “Whisky bandit” breaks Hungarian women’s hearts

Hungarian bankers are again on alert after a decade of peace and quiet. To blame is the “Whisky Bandit,” a bank robber from Romania, according to Pro TV. He was released from jail on Tuesday evening after serving ten of the 17 years he was sentenced to. The bandit has many fans, especially female fans.

The most wanted criminal in Hungary is a free man, but he did not want to detail his plans. Attila Ambrus was born in 1`967 in MIercurea Ciuc and played ice hockey before becoming a bank robber.

He got the nickname “Whisky Bandit” because he always drank a glass of whisky in bars near the banks he robbed. Moreover, he gave bank workers flowers before the robbery and he sent wine bottles to the police agents handling his case.

He was caught in 1999 and in 12002 he was sentenced to 17 years in jail for 46 armed robberies in Hungary. He was released on parole.

Ambrus is some sort of a star among the Hungarian youth. A young woman for instance stood in front of the jail for several hours, holding a figurine representing the Whisky Bandit. To her it doesn’t matter that Ambrus is an offender, but that he hit the banking system which is currently criticized by Hungarians for prospering while the entire country is deeply affected by the economic crisis.

The prosecutor who indicted Ambrus is convinced that the man will return before the court soon. But the man’s layer says his client learned his lesson and will not rob again.

His life’s story was also the subject of a book, and Ambrus sold the adaptation rights to Johnny Depp. And now Ambrus is waiting to see a movie about his life in movie theaters all around the world.

Un hot roman, vedeta peste hotare. "Banditul whiskey" a rupt inimile unguroaicelor

O tanara, de exemplu, a stat cateva ore in fata inchisorii, tinand in maini o marioneta copiata dupa chipul Banditului Whiskey.

Iar acum asteapta sa vada filmul vietii sale, in cinematografe.
