In a public statement on Wednesday evening, the head of state said the National Television TVR must be dismantled and rebuilt on new grounds, adding the television has become a family business. 

“The national TV station cannot continue to work like this, you see a two-room flat functioning as a more dynamic TV station, and they have no debts. No one is saying we mustn’t have a state supported TV station, but it is not OK when it functions as a business, and this is a reality that Mr. Lazescu can confirm to you,” Basescu said. 

“It is so obvious we are speaking about family businesses there, inter-trust businesses. A 3,500 employee TV station buying a lot of other market products, what are they doing with so many employees. The solution is to dismantle it, named a manager that should follow the law. The figures here are unjustified and huge, and I think the government must do something quick, not clientele leaders, not administration boards, it should be dismantled and taken out of the political influence. It should involve small costs, let it work after the private television models,” the head of state said.

Preşedintele Traian Băsescu a declarat, miercuri seară, că TVR trebuie desfiinţată şi reînfiinţată pe baze noi, el afirmând că acest post de televiziune a ajuns "o afacere" şi dând exemplul unei "televiziuni care funcţionează" în două camere şi este mai dianamică decât postul public.

"TVR trebuie desfiinţată şi reînfiinţată pe alte baze. Nu poate funcţiona aşa. Vezi o televiziune în două camere care funcţionează şi e mai dinamică decât TVR, şi fără datorii. Sigur, nu spune nimeni că nu trebuie să avem o televiziune de stat, dar această televiziune a ajuns o afacere. Iar această realitate v-o poate confirma domnul Lăzescu, că am discutat cu el", a spus Băsescu, răspunzând unei întrebări.

Şeful statului a menţionat că "acolo sunt afaceri de familie".

"E evident că acolo sunt afaceri de familie, sunt afaceri intertrusturi, o televiziune cu 3.500 de salariaţi care cumpără atâta producţie de pe piaţă, nu ştiu ce face cu atâţia salariaţi. Soluţia e desfiinţarea televiziunii, numit un manager care să facă o televizune publica care să răspundă unor exigenţe date de lege... Cifra mi se pare enormă şi nejustificată. Eu cred că Guvernul va trebui să facă ceva: nu numiri de clientelă, nu de consilii de administraţie, desfiinţată, numit un manager, depolitizată. Cu costuri mai mici, să funcţioneze cum functionează televiziunile private. ", a arătat şeful statului
