The new bridge that spans the Danube between Calafat and Vidin will be inaugurated most likely on June 15, Romanian Premier Victor Ponta announced on Sunday. Present in Bulgaria’s Ruse, Ponta stated that the inauguration will take place in the presence of European Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn, Agerpres informs.
During a press conference organized for Romanian journalists, Ponta stated that the government has adopted a decision through which it proposes to Parliament to ratify the agreement between Romania and Bulgaria on setting up a mixed company that would administer the new bridge. Also on Sunday, during a joint press conference with the Romanian Premier, Sergei Stanishev, President of the Bulgarian Socialist Party and also President of the Party of European Socialists, asked for the speeding up of the procedure to inaugurate the bridge between Vidin and Calafat.
This is the first time when an official announces that the inauguration will take place in June. Until now Bulgarian representatives used to announce that the inauguration will take place in May.
The Calafat-Vidin Bridge will have a length of approximately two kilometers, four lanes, a railway line, two sidewalks and a lane for bicycles. The costs of the construction were estimated at EUR 225 M in 2011.

Noul pod peste Dunăre, între Calafat şi Vidin, va fi inaugurat cel mai probabil la 15 iunie, a anunţat duminică premierul român, Victor Ponta. Aflat în oraşul bulgar Ruse, Ponta a spus că inaugurarea va avea loc în prezenţa comisarului european pentru politică regională, Johannes Hahn, scrie Agerpres.
Într-o conferinţă de presă organizată doar pentru ziariştii români, Ponta a declarat că guvernul a adoptat o decizie prin care propune parlamentului să ratifice acordul între România şi Bulgaria pentru înfiinţarea unei companii mixte care să administreze noul pod. Tot duminică, la o conferinţă de presă comună cu premierul român, preşedintele Partidului Socialist Bulgar, Serghei Stanişev, care este şi preşedintele Partidului Socialiştilor Europeni, a cerut accelerarea procedurilor pentru inaugurarea podului dintre Vidin şi Cafat. Aceasta este prima dată când un oficial anunţă că inaugurarea va avea loc în iunie. Până acum reprezentanţii bulgari anunţau că inaugurarea va avea loc în luna mai.
