In a Romania with a growing number of tasteless constructions erected very fast with the aim of obtaining huge profit (without anybody relating to the client's benefits), big change is needed at the foundation, literally. Bucharest is the only EU capital city that doesn't respect the required green space per capita. Salvation might come not from contemporary engineers but by... going back in time to the turn of the previous century, when Henri Coanda had designed the Cruciform Building, according to Go4it.ro.
Nobody had the curiosity to look in the past and find an amazing architectural idea, belonging to a person who is generally known for inventing the motorjet. This was Henri Coanda and the concept below belongs to him, being a colossal pyramid, named by the engineer a cruciform building.
The cruciform building was designed in the early 1920s when people after World War I were looking for cheap and efficient solutions to build new homes.
According to the blueprints, the building has 20 floors on the central axis. Therefore, imagine something huge - two blocks of flats of ten floors each sitting on top of each other. A total of 1,000 families can inhabit this pyramid.
Coanda came up with this bold idea - a residential ensemble with a nice, imposing aspect and a multitude of facilities for potential inhabitants: safety (the building was designed so as to withstand earthquakes, in fact the building's full name is anti-seismic cruciform building), comfort (pyramidal structure assures natural light to everybody, regardless of what side they are positioned on, but also numerous terraces for higher apartments), quick access to various services (shops, pharmacies or even a hospital, entertainment, education), green areas for relaxation, spaces for all sorts of events (fairs, exhibitions), security (in one of the pyramid's edges one ore more police stations can be set up) and many others.
Coanda offered a good starting point that we would give extraordinary value to, with a bit of imagination. Let's think of today's technologies, which could turn this ensemble into an ultra-modern building: sun panels to save energy and other systems to improve thermal capacity (thermal transfer with the ground - underground systems that chill the air and then send it to the inside of the building through special channels), huge underground parking lot, business center / movie theater under the top level dome, ecological illumination, well ventilated apartments and surveillance cameras on hallways and on the outside, to help the local police act efficiently.
Therefore, everything was designed to be airy, soothing for both the mind and the body, if we think of the shape and facilities. The current constructions are more often than not aggressive and this aggressiveness gives a state of nervousness not only to inhabitants but also to visitors.
Still, even if such a construction offers many advantages, investors refuse to back such an idea because it requires a big area and lengthy works. Investors are desperate to become rich overnight, so they choose cheap projects that can be built fast. Maybe one day, somebody will realize the potential of this project and it will become reality.

Într-o Românie cu din ce în ce mai multe construcţii de prost gust , făcute la repezeală şi din care se doreşte obţinerea unui profit uriaş (fără ca cineva să se raporteze la beneficiile obţinute de client), este nevoie de o schimbare din temelii, la propriu. Bucureştiul e singura capitală a unui stat membru UE care nu respectă norma de spaţiu verde pe cap de locuitor. Nimeni nu a avut curiozitatea să caute în trecut şi să descopere o idee arhitecturală uimitoare , a unui om despre care mulţi ştiu doar că a inventat avionul cu reacţie, iar şi mai mulţi nu ştiu nici atât. Este vorba de Henri Coandă, iar conceptul pe care îl vom prezenta şi care îi aparţine este o piramidă colosală, denumită de inginer imobil cruciform.
Imobilul cruciform a fost gândit la începutul anilor '20 când, după încheierea Primului Război Mondial, se căutau soluţii ieftine şi eficiente pentru construirea de noi locuinţe.
Conform datelor din plan, ansamblul are 20 de etaje pe axa centrală. Aşadar, imaginaţi-vă ceva imens - două blocuri de 10 etaje unul peste altul. În total, 1000 de familii pot popula piramida.
Coandă a venit cu această idee îndrăzneaţă: un ansamblu rezidenţial cu un aspect plăcut, impunător, şi cu o mulţime de facilităţi pentru potenţialii locatari: siguranţă (clădirea a fost proiectată astfel încât să reziste la cutremure, de altfel denumirea completă a conceptului este imobil cruciform antiseismic), confort (structura piramidală asigură lumină naturală tuturor, indiferent pe ce parte sunt poziţionaţi, dar şi numeroase terase pentru apartamentele de sus), acces rapid la diverse servicii (magazine, farmacii sau chiar un spital, divertisment, educaţie), spaţii verzi pentru relaxare, spaţii pentru organizarea a tot soiul de evenimente (ex: târguri, expoziţii), securitate (într-unul din capetele piramidei se pot aloca spaţii pentru unul sau mai multe sedii de poliţie) ş.a.m.d.
Henri Coandă ne-a oferit o bază serioasă căreia, cu puţină imaginaţie, îi putem adăuga o valoare extraordinară. Să ne gândim la tehnologiile din ziua de azi care ar putea transforma acest ansamblu într-un imobil ultra-modern: panouri solare pentru economisirea energiei dar şi alte sisteme de îmbunătăţire a randamentelor termice (transfer termic cu pământul - sisteme subterane care răcesc aerul şi îl trimit apoi pe canale speciale către interiorul imobilului) , parcare subterană imensă, centru de afaceri / cinematograf sub cupola de la ultimul nivel, iluminare ecologică, apartamente aerisite şi camere de supraveghere pe holuri şi în exterior prin intermediul cărora poliţiştii din secţia înfiinţată în cadrul ansamblului pot acţiona prompt.
Aşadar, totul este gândit ca fiind aerisit, liniştitor pentru fizic şi psihic dacă ne raportăm la formă şi facilităţi. Construcţiile actuale sunt de cele mai multe ori agresive, au colţuri, iar această agresivitate induce o stare de nervozitate nu doar locuitorilor, ci şi vizitatorilor.
Totusi, desi o astfel de construcţie oferă foarte multe avantaje, investitorii refuză să pună în practică o asemenea idee pe motiv că necesită un spaţiu mare pentru amplasare, iar lucrările durează foarte mult. Ei sunt disperaţi să se îmbogăţească peste noapte, astfel că ei aleg proiecte ieftine care se construiesc rapid. Poate că într-o bună zi cineva îşi va da seama însă de potenţialul acestui proiect şi el va deveni o realitate.
