Ionescu, who initially learned from the media in April that his wife was determined to get a divorce, told Happy Hour that all this time, many lies were written about their relationship, allegations that there were many scandals in the family and that he was a drunkard and womanizer but all these were false rumors.
"We said, let's do it, let's get a divorce. We agreed to divorce. Magda filed the documents. I don't know what she wants, she wants some liberties that she didn't have, but I never forbade her to do anything. My mother-in-law was a real bother, we say at her place. I swallowed a lot from her because she's old, she gave me a rough time. I told Magda that we're divorcing because of her mother," Ionescu said on Pro TV.
"I have nothing to object as regards my wife, we do this because we both agreed. It's not splitting up, it's separation," Ionescu said.
People close to the two say there are other reasons for divorce and what was written in the press is not far from the truth. Magda can no longer bear the fact that her husband is not really a family man. For years, he would drink one extra glass, saying as an excuse, "I drink like any Romanian, I have fun like any Romanian" and when he'd get home, he would blame Magda for everything. But because she married him out of love, the actress often turned a blind eye and forgave him for the scandals and the drinking sprees.

Actorul Şerban Ionescu, care a aflat initial din presa, prin luna aprilie, ca sotia sa e hotarata sa divorteze a mărturisit pentru Happy Hour că in acest timp s-a scris multe minciuni despre relaţia lor, printre care că ar fi multe scandaluri în familie, că el este beţiv sau curvar, toate insa, fiind zvonuri neadevărate
"Am zis că hai să o facem, să divorţăm. Ne-am înţeles să divorţăm, Magda a depus actele. Nu ştiu ce gânduri are doamna, vrea unele libertăţi pe care nu le-a avut, eu nu i-am interzis niciodată nimic. Pe noi ne-a încurcat mult soacră-mea, că noi stăm cu ea în casă. I-am înghiţit multe pentru că era bătrână, mi-a făcut zile negre. Eu i-am zis Magdei că din cauza lui maică-sa divorţăm.” a spus Şerban Ionescu la Pro TV.
"N-am nimic să-i reproşez soţiei mele, facem asta de comun acord. Nu e o despărţire, e o separare", a declarat Şerban Ionescu, viitorul fost soţ al Magdei Catone.
Apropiatii celor doi sustin ca divortul ar avea si alte motive, iar ce s-a scris in presa n-ar fi departe de adevar. Magda ajuns la capatul rabdarii deoarece sotul sau nu este nici pe departe un familist convins. Acesta obisnuia de ani buni sa bea cate un paharel in plus, avand ca scuza: "Beau ca orice român, mă bucur ca orice român, iar cand ajungea acasa ii gasea Magdei nod in papura. Insa, pentru ca l-a luat din dragoste, actrita a inghitit adesea in sec, iertandu-i atat bautele cu baietii, cat si scandalurile.
