It was never going to be the most onerous of scientific endeavours. When experts set out to examine the alluring sway of a woman’s hips when she walks, a delighted and charming young male researcher was tasked with chatting up more than 100 young single women. The unnamed researcher then secretly filmed them from behind using a camera in his buttonhole, Daily Mail reports.
The covert footage was viewed by two other men – who were asked to judge each wiggle on an attractiveness scale of one to five. Their research revealed that women at the peak of their fertility cycles walk more slowly and seductively than those who are not.
This subtle change in behaviour is subconscious but has clear evolutionary benefits – as it makes a woman appear more attractive just at the time when she is most likely to fall pregnant, the research showed.
The girls were unaware of the nature of the study and were asked for a saliva sample to test for the presence of a hormone. Levels of the hormone indicated whether they were approaching the most fertile time of the month.
And the secret of the wiggle, well known for leaving men smitten when demonstrated by attractive women such as the singer Beyonce, was confirmed when the researcher compared the hormone test with the ratings from the judging panel.

Un cercetător britanic a studiat felul în care merg femeile pentru a determina dacă există o legătură între fertilitatea lor şi felul în care îşi leagănă şoldurile, scrie Daily Mail.
Profesorul Nicholas Gueguen a studiat mersul a 103 femei, tinere studente cu vârste cuprinse între 18 şi 22 de ani. Fetele care au participat la studiu nu au ştiut iniţial despre ce este vorba şi au fost filmate cu o cameră ascunsă de cercetători în timp ce mergeau pe un hol. Conform studiului, femeile au un mers mai lent şi mai seducător atunci când se află la ovulaţie.
Cercetătorii au luat şi probe de salivă de la tinere pentru a vedea în ce măsură hormonii specifici perioadei fertile erau prezenţi. Tinerele care erau la ovulaţie au parcurs holul mai lent decât celelalte fete care au participat la studiu. De asemenea, mersul lor a fost unul mai seducător din puncul de vedere al bărbaţilor.
"Am descoperit că femeile care sunt la ovulaţie merg mai lent, iar mişcarea şoldurilor este percepută de bărbaţi ca fiind mai seducătoare. Studiul nostru arată că ciclul menstrual influenţează comportamentul unei femei", spune profesorul Gueguen de la Universitatea Bretagne-Sud din Franţa. Gueguen conduce un alt studiu acum, prin care încearcă să determine dacă femeile poartă pantofi cu tocuri mai înalte atunci când sunt în perioada fertilă a lunii.
