Pasta from dough prepared in the kitchen, according to Italian original receipts, fresh calamari, dry Italian wines (Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Treviano) served in carafe, meat ball soup and grilled minced meat rolls, central location and reasonable prices in a restaurant that combines Italian and Romanian cuisine to bring Romanians and Italians together at the same table.
“Olive Garden” (www.olivegarden.ro ), located on Calea Dorobanti, on Tudor Vianu Street No 11, a quiet and fancy street with houses, attracts especially customers who come here to have lunch with colleagues or business partners. The name, that suggests the proximity to the Mediterranean cuisine, bathed in olive oil, attract through sonority those who care about healthy nutrition.
The menu, that includes tasty Italian specialties such as spaghetti carbonara, penne al arabiata, tagliatelle pescatrice e porcini, gnocchi panna e tartufo with sour cream and truffles, tagliatelle pana, cotto e rucola with parmesan, ham, arugula and sour cream or calamari “Uberto”, but also Romanian dishes such as polenta with cheese and sour cream, polenta ball, liver with onion and mushrooms or grilled minced meat rolls is a very good option for an exchange of culinary experiences between groups of friends including Romanians and Italians.
The prices range between 12 and 25 RON for a pasta plate and 32 RON for a calamari plate. Another special dish is Taiata de Angus, a plate with Argentina steak, extremely tender and vegetables, accompanied by the house wine Monte Pulciano, a 14 degrees strong wine, served in carafe. The deserts are varied, but not different from the ones in other restaurants, with pancakes, ice-cream, apple pie, crème brulee and one type of Italian cake: tiramisu.
The chef is Romanian, but the owner, who spends a lot of time in the kitchen, knows exactly what quantities and ingredients must be used for the pasta to seem brought right from their country. The restaurant has a capacity of 45 to 50 seats and a terrace that can host around 45 people. The scenery does not attract through opulence, but through warmth, combining simple Romanian and Italian elements, in brown, yellow and orange shades. In time, as the specific will become strictly Italian, investments will be made to ensure coherence between the menu and the scenery. Olive Garden can also be rented for parties and private events, from Monday to Friday between 10 and 22.
