Atmospheric instability will gradually deepen in most regions as of Sunday evening, with wind expected to pick up speed and with thunderstorms and hail in some areas, according to the National Meteorology Administration (ANM). A code red warning for heat was issued for three Bulgarian regions on Sunday, the rest of the country being under a code orange alert, according to the local meteorology and hydrology authority.
Under the ANM forecast, showers are expected between Sunday, 3 pm and Monday, 9 pm, with heavy rain expected to exceed 20-30 liters per square meter in some areas, especially in Moldavia and mountainous regions.
On Monday, the weather will start cooling in most parts of the country, with temperatures of 35-36 degrees likely only in some areas of the far south in the afternoon.
Code red for heat at Bulgarian border
A Code Red alert was declared for 3 Bulgarian regions on Sunday, while the rest of the country is under code orange over the forecast for scorching heat, Novinite reported. The forecast is issued by the National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, BAS.
Code Red for dangerous heat is issued for the very first time in Bulgaria since the system was introduced and is effective for the regions of Pleven, Ruse and Veliko Tarnovo where the mercury will hit the 43 Celsius mark.
Code Red is declared for temperatures above 41C. It means the weather is extremely dangerous with very intense meteorological events and possibility for damage and casualties.
People are advised to not venture outside, especially around noon and during the afternoon; to strictly follow the directions of the authorities and be prepared for emergency measures. Plenty of water is to be drunk.
Temperatures in the rest of Bulgaria were to reach anywhere between 37 and 42 degrees Celsius. In Bulgaria, the most recent heat wave was recorded in July 2007 when the mercury reached 45C in some locations. The absolute temperature record in Bulgaria was measured in 1916 in the village of Sadovo, near the second largest city of Plovdiv.
Cooler air, accompanied by some rain in the afternoon and evening, bringing some relief is expected Monday.

Conform informării meteorologilor, de duminică de la ora 15:00 până luni la ora 21:00 vor fi şi averse, izolat torenţiale, iar cantităţile de apă vor depăşi local 20...30 l/mp, în special în Moldova şi zona montană.
În cursul zilei de luni, vremea se vă răcori în toată ţara şi doar izolat în sudul extrem se vor mai atinge la amiază valori de 35…36 de grade.

O avertizare de cod roşu de caniculă a fost emisă, duminică, pentru trei regiuni din Bulgaria, în timp ce restul ţării se află sub avertizare de cod portocaliu, a anunţat Institutul Naţional de Meteorologie şi Hidrologie, relatează site-ul Novinite.com.
Codul roşu de caniculă a fost emis pentru prima dată în Bulgaria de la introducerea sistemului şi este în vigoare pentru regiunile Plevna, Ruse şi Veliko Tărnovo, unde mercurul termometrelor va urca până la 43 de grade Celsius.
Codul roşu este emis pentru temperaturi care depăşesc 41 de grade Celsius.
Autorităţile au recomandat populaţiei să nu se aventureze afară, în special în jurul prânzului şi al după-amiezii, să respecte cu stricteţe recomandările şi să fie pregătite pentru măsuri de urgenţă.
Temperaturile în restul Bulgariei vor fi cuprinse între 37 şi 42 de grade Celsius. Recordul absolut de temperatură în Bulgaria a fost măsurat în 1916 în satul Sadovo, din apropiere de Plovdiv. O masă de aer mai rece, însoţită de ploi în cursul după-amiezii şi al serii, va aduce temperaturi mai suportabile luni.
