Constant egoism causes the death of man’s spiritual life, while love and generosity bring fulfillment and holiness, this truth being emphasized by the traditional Romanian saying “reaching Heaven one gift at a time,” Patriarch Daniel states in his pastoral letter.
“The sacrament of Christmas is the sacrament of God’s pious and merciful love of men. The more the Son of God descended on Earth the more he opened to us a path to ascend to him, to heavenly life. Indeed, our frail being needed a doctor, man fallen down with tiredness was waiting for the one who was going to give him a hand, the one who lost his life was waiting for the giver of life,” Patriarch Daniel wrote in the pastoral letter, quoting Saint Gregory of Nyssa. “The person that does not give himself to God through prayer and to his fellow man through good deeds grows spiritually poorer and becomes dehumanized. Why? Because he loses the meaning of life which is self-abnegation,” Patriarch Daniel pointed out.
The Patriarch added that Orthodox Romanians perceive Christmas carolers as the messengers of God’s love for the world, and priests that take the Nativity of Jesus icon to people’s homes symbolize the shepherds in Bethlehem, but also Christ-God who brings us the joy of God’s love for the people and expects us to answer his call with joy and love.
Patriarch Daniel also wishes Romanians living abroad thinking about their loved ones in the country "help from God in life and in keeping and cultivating the Orthodox faith and Romanian spirituality.”
At the same time, Patriarch Daniel stated that people should be satisfied with the accomplishments of 2012 and should ask God for help in everything they want to do in 2013.
Patriarhul Daniel: Egoismul produce moartea vieţii spirituale, iubirea şi dărnicia aduc împlinire
Egoismul constant produce în om împuţinare şi moartea vieţii spirituale, iar iubirea şi dărnicia aduc împlinire şi sfinţire, adevărul fiind concentrat în înţelepciunea populară românească "dar din dar se face Rai", spune PF Daniel în Pastorala de Crăciun.
"Taina Crăciunului este taina iubirii milostive şi smerite a lui Dumnezeu pentru oameni. Pe cât a coborât fiul lui Dumnezeu la noi pe pământ, pe atât ne-a deschis nouă oamenilor drum ca să ne înălţăm la el, la viaţa cerească. Firea noastră cea slăbănogită, într-adevăr, avea nevoie de doctor, omul căzut de istoveală aştepta pe cel ce-i va întinde mâna, cel ce-şi pierduse viaţa aştepta pe dătătorul ei", arată patriarhul Daniel în Pastorală, citând din Sfântul Grigorie de Nyssa.
" Omul care nu se dăruieşte pe sine lui Dumnezeu, prin rugăciune, şi semenilor săi, prin fapte bune, sărăceşte spiritual şi se dezumanizează. De ce? Pentru că a pierdut sensul vieţii ca dăruire de sine", a arătat PF Faniel.
Patriarhul a adăugat că românii creştini ortodocşi văd în colindătorii de Crăciun vestitori ai iubirii lui Dumnezeu pentru lume, iar preoţii care poartă icoana Naşterii Domnului la casele oamenilor simbolizează pe păstorii de la Betleem, dar şi pe Hristos-Domnul, care ne aduce bucuria iubirii lui Dumnezeu pentru oameni şi aşteaptă ca şi noi să răspundem, cu bucurie şi iubire, la chemarea lui.
PF Daniel le transmite şi românilor care se află dincolo de graniţele ţării, cu gândul la cei dragi din ţară, "ajutor de la Dumnezeu în viaţă şi în păstrarea şi cultivarea credinţei ortodoxe şi a spiritualităţii româneşti".
Totodată, patriarhul Daniel a spus că, la cumpăna dintre ani, oamenii trebuie să mulţumească pentru binefacerile din 2012 şi să ceară ajutorul lui Dumnezeu în tot ce vor să facă în 2013.
