Egg sales grow by 60 million units two weeks before Easter and although they sell for 0.18 per piece at the farm they end up on the shelves at RON 0.4-0.5, Ilie Van, President of the National Union of Romanian Poultry Farmers, stated for Mediafax.
“In the period before Easter egg sales grow by 60 per cent compared to a regular month. If 100-110 million eggs are normally sold per month, another 60 million eggs will be sold during the two weeks before Easter,” Van stated.
He stated that although eggs are bought for RON 0.18 at the farm, they end up on store shelves at prices of RON 0.4-0.5. Thus, for over 60 million eggs Romanians will pay over EUR 24 M on Easter.
“Although the price of eggs bought at the farm dropped from RON 0.33 in January to RON 0.18, in the stores they have remained just as expensive,” Ilie Van added. The price of eggs bought at farms dropped in recent months because of a higher offer on the market.

Vânzările de ouă cresc cu 60 de milioane de bucăţi cu două săptămâni înaintea Paştelui, şi deşi se vând la poarta fermei cu 0,18 lei bucata, acestea ajung în magazine cu 0,4-0,5 lei, a declarat agenţiei Mediafax Ilie Van, preşedintele Uniunii Naţionale a Crescătorilor de Păsări din România.
"În perioada de dinaintea Paştelui, vânzările de ouă crescu cu 60% faţă de o lună obişnuită. Dacă în mod normal se vând 100-110 milioane de ouă pe lună, în cele două săptămâni înainte de Paşte se vor mai vinde în plus peste 60 de milioane de ouă", a spus Van.
El a afirmat că, deşi la poarta fermei ouăle se vând cu 0,18 lei, ele ajung pe rafturile magazinelor cu 0,4-0,5 lei. Astfel, românii vor plăti de Paşte pe cele 60 de milioane de ouă peste 24 de milioane de euro.
"Deşi preţul ouălor la fermă a scăzut la 0,18 lei faţă de 0,33 lei în ianuarie, în magazine acestea au rămas la fel de scumpe", a adăugat Ilie Van.
Ouăle s-au ieftinit la poarta fermei în ultimele luni datorită ofertei mari de pe piaţă.
