The results of the referendum to dismiss Traian Basescu must be accepted. A modus Vivendi must be found between the president and the USL. Basescu has the right to resume his position as president. The statements were made by the Socialist leader in the European Parliament, Hannes Swoboda, on RFI.
“Traian Basescu has of course the right to return to the position of president. Still, he should find a modus Vivendi with the government, they should work together for the benefit of Romanian reforms. I don’t see any winner in this referendum. I think both sides, the government and Mr. Basescu, should make efforts so that Romania is not the loser, but the winner of these results,” Swoboda said on RFI Romania.
“The results need to be accepted. As for political legitimacy, we can discuss this, because the majority voted against President Basescu, but I believe we have to stick to the law. I think Romania is in a very difficult position. I said, on behalf of my group, that we follow the line of the European Commission, we criticized Viviane Reding, the justice commissioner, when she overstepped her duties and launched some accusations, but I believe it must be very clear that the commission’s position has full support from the great majority of the European Parliament and now it is up to Romanian forces to act accordingly,” Swoboda added.

Rezultatele referendumului pentru demiterea lui Traian Băsescu trebuie acceptate. Trebuie găsit un modus vivendi între preşedinte şi USL. Traian Băsescu are dreptul să revină în funcţia de preşedinte. Declaraţiile au fost făcute la RFI de liderul socialiştilor din Parlamentul European, Hannes Swoboda.
"Traian Băsescu are bineînţeles dreptul să se întoarcă la funcţia de preşedinte. Totuşi, ar trebui să găsească împreună cu Guvernul un modus vivendi, să lucreze împreună în beneficiul reformelor din România. Nu văd nici un câştigător al acestui referendum. Cred că ambele părţi, Guvernul şi domnul Băsescu ar trebui să facă eforturi în aşa fel încât într-un final, România să nu fie perdanta, ci câştigătoarea acestor rezultate", a declarat liderul socialiştilor din Parlamentul European, Hannes Swoboda, la RFI România.
"Rezultatele trebuie să fie acceptate. Cât despre legitimitatea politică, aici putem discuta, pentru că majoritatea a votat împotriva preşedintelui Băsescu, dar cred că ar trebui să ne rezumăm la litera legii. Cred că România se află într-o poziţie foarte dificilă. Am spus în numele grupului meu politic că urmăm linia Comisiei Europene, am criticat-o pe Viviane Reding, comisarul pentru Justiţie, când şi-a depăşit atribuţiile şi a lansat unele acuzaţii, dar cred că trebuie să fie foarte clar că poziţia Comisiei are tot sprijinul din partea marii majorităţi din Parlamentul European şi acum depinde de forţele din România să acţioneze în consecinţă", a adăugat acesta.
