Traian Basescu posted on his Facebook page on Saturday evening, after the PDL convention, a message in which he announced the parting of ways with the party. “The way they understood to be democrats makes me say goodbye PDL.”
“I saw the result of the PDL Convention, I believe I was honest with this party. I told them that after these elections we will each choose our path. The way they understood to be democrats makes me say now for good and forever: goodbye Democrat Party. Today we have parted ways. They are no longer a millstone for me, I am no longer a millstone for them. I will dedicate myself to the construction of another right-wing option, with honest people, with people that do not run away with the ballot boxes, with people that accept the democratic right of a legal contest and I want you to know I will not do anything to bring along my side any piece of PDL,” Traian Basescu stated in a video message posted on his Facebook page on Saturday evening at 8.34 PM.
The President also stated that PDL “proved that it could hold a democratic line only as long as it knew it had an authoritarian leader.” “Immediately after they felt they can be alone the party’s FSN faction broke out, and today’s Convention is proof that 50 per cent of the party is still anchored in FSN’s bad habits. Goodbye PD, goodbye PDL. Today we part ways for good. You mind your path and I have mine,” Basescu stated, waving his hand.
“I will dedicate myself to the construction of another right-wing solution, with honest people, with people that do not run away with the ballot boxes, with people that accept the democratic right of a legal contest and I want you to know I will not do anything to bring along my side any piece of PDL,” Traian Basescu states in his message.

Traian Băsescu a postat sâmbătă seara, după convenţia PDL, un mesaj pe pagina sa de Facebook, în care îşi anunţa despărţirea de partid. "Modul în care nu au înţeles să fie democraţi mă face să spun "Adio, PDL".
"Am văzut rezultatul Convenţiei PDL, cred că am fost cinstit cu acest partid. I-am spus că după aceste alegeri ne vom alege fiecare drumul. Modul cum nu au înţeles să fie democraţi mă face să spun acum definitiv şi pentru totdeauna: Adio, Partid Democrat. Astăzi ne-am despărţit. Ei nu mai sunt o piatră de moară pentru mine, eu nu mai sunt o piatră de moară pentru ei. Mă voi dedica construcţiei unei alte soluţii de dreapta, cu oameni cinstiţi, cu oameni care nu fug cu urnele, cu oameni care acceptă dreptul democratic al contestaţiei şi vreau să ştiţi că nu voi face nimic pentru a aduce alături de mine vreo bucăţică din PDL", a declarat Traian Băsescu, într-un mesaj video postat pe pagina de Facebook "Alături de preşedintele nostru", sâmbătă seară, la ora 20.34.
Preşedintele mai spune că PDL "a demonstrat că a putut fi pe o direcţie democratică atâta timp cât a ştiut de un lider autoritar".
"Imediat ce au simţit că pot singuri aripa fesenistă a partidului a răbufnit, iar Convenţia de astăzi este proba că 50% din partid este încă ancorat în năravurile FSN-ului. Adio PD, adio PDL. Noi azi ne-am despărţit definitiv. Luaţi-vă drumul vostru, iar eu îl am pe al meu", a mai spus Băsescu, făcând şi un gest cu mâna.
"Mă voi dedica construcţiei unei alte soluţii de dreapta, cu oameni cinstiţi, cu oameni care nu fug cu urnele, cu oameni care acceptă dreptul democratic al contestaţiei şi vreau să ştiţi că nu voi face nimic pentru a aduce alături de mine vreo bucăţică din PDL", spune Traian Băsescu în mesajul prin care îşi ia adio de la PDL.
