International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge stated before the opening of the European Youth Olympic Festival that he saw good infrastructure in Brasov and a beautiful region, the competition’s official website informs.
“I have seen good infrastructure and a beautiful region, I heard only nice things from the coaches. The athletes, the coaches and the instructors are happy with what they have found here. The sports centers have a very good quality, the foreign instructors being very impressed,” Rogge stated.
Jacques Rogge pointed out that in his opinion Romania has chances to win medals in the alpine skiing and biathlon events. “I’m not an expert when it comes to predictions but I believe you have chances in alpine skiing and biathlon. It will be good to have a medal won by Romania.”
Romanian Olympic Sports Committee (COSR) President Octavian Morariu considers that Romania has chances in the biathlon, cross-country skiing and ski jump events. “I believe EYOF will take place in very good conditions, there were a lot of talks on the issue of organization, and I was convinced we would overcome them… Of course these competitions pave the way to organizing other competitions, this is our purpose. That of proving to the international world of sports that we can organize large competitions and in this way we can bid to host big competitions,” Morariu stated. The European Youth Olympic Festival is taking place in Brasov, Rasnov, Predeal, Cheile Gradistei – Fundata on February 17-22.

Preşedintele Comitetului Internaţional Olimpic (CIO), Jacques Rogge, a declarat, înainte de deschiderea Festivalului Olimpic al Tineretului European, că a văzut o infrastructură bună în Braşov şi o regiune frumoasă, informează site-ul oficial al competiţiei.
"Am văzut o infrastructură bună şi o regiune frumoasă, am auzit numai vorbe frumoase de la antrenori. Sportivii, antrenorii şi instructorii sunt fericiţi de ceea ce au găsit aici. Bazele sportive sunt de o calitate foarte bună, instructorii străini fiind foarte impresionaţi", a spus Rogge.
Jacques Rogge a precizat că în opinia sa România are şanse de a obţine medalii la schi alpin şi la biatlon: "Nu sunt expert în predicţii dar cred că aveţi şanse la schi alpin şi biatlon. Va fi bine să avem o medalie din România".
Preşedintele COSR, Octavian Morariu, consideră că România are şanse la biatlon, la schi fond şi la sărituri cu schiurile. "Cred că FOTE se va desfăşura în foarte bune condiţii, au fost foarte multe discuţii pe marginea organizării pe care eram convins că le vom depăşi. ... Sigur aceste competiţii deschid calea organizării altor competiţii, acesta este şi scopul nostru. Acela de a dovedi lumii sportive internaţionale că putem organiza competiţii mari şi în acest fel putem cere să avem competiţii mari", a afirmat Morariu. Festivalul Olimpic al Tineretului European se desfăşoară în Braşov, Râşnov şi Predeal, Cheile Grădiştei - Fundata, în perioada 17 - 22 februarie.
